Stick it 2 Cancer :)

I am really excited because I just joined a group called Stick it 2 Cancer! You can make donations to my page personally or to the group's page as a whole. I want to make a difference, that's for sure :)

Seeing this and signing up has actually inspired me to share my Mom's story as well. 
My Mom was diagnosed in the Spring of 2003 with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. It's a type of skin cancer that metastasized into her lymph nodes. She had a major neck dissection and was told she may not be able to walk or talk after her surgery. She was also told that she wouldn't be able to have the use of her right arm anymore as well. Well, a lot of chemotherapy and radiation later, Mom is doing great. :) She has been in remission going on 9 years now and I couldn't have asked for a better role model in my life. She went through everything and still had time to take care of myself, my step dad, and my brothers. She was working full time in an elementary school cafeteria up until last Fall. She has had pneumonia and bronchitis quite a few times since then and has been hospitalized a couple of times. But she still gets up every day and does something, even if it is just cleaning the house.
My Mom is the most compassionate and kind hearted person you will ever meet. She would gladly give the shirt off her own back to keep someone else warm. She didn't have a very good chance of survival, and the odds were all stacked against her, but she was determined to "Stick it 2 Cancer". And she did!

My Mom is such an inspiration to anyone who meets her. We never thought she would be around to hold my nephews, see me graduate high school, let alone college, or to see any one of her kids succeed. She has surprised us all and is keeping us on our toes. :) 

I am hoping she can join me in the walk this year. It's my first walk and I would love to take those first steps with her :) 


*Simple Moment of the Day*
I got to play with my nephews yesterday. My sister-in-law had Jaden (3) laughing so hard and I can almost put money on the fact that he wet his diaper. :)
